So... it all begins and ends in a fairly condensed area: the Alps. You can imagine how proud we are to be ‘Made in France’. Because quality nutrition is all very well. For us, making it organic is essential. And having it made in France is the icing on your Baouw bar.
Here's the story of a little bar spoiled by nature...
Stage 1: We concoct the recipes for your Baouw :
At Yoann Conte's Maison Bleue (our Michelin-starred chef) in Annecy, in the northern French Alps, where Fanny, our product manager, works with our co-founders, Benoît Nave, Gilles Galoux and Yoann.
We test the first recipes, which don't look like much at this stage but already have the taste we want. In Yoann's back kitchen in Haute-Savoie, we stir up ingredients that pay homage to nature and its treasures. We try things out. We fail. We try again. Until we find THE texture that Benoît is looking for, for good digestibility. Until we found THE little bitterness that would come back on the palate to please Yoann and ‘cut’ the sweetness of the fruit a little. So you don't get too thirsty after eating a Baouw bar. Yes, nutrition is an art, of course.
- We also have ideas, of course, in our offices in Annecy-le-Vieux (Alps), on the Glaisins business park, among all the great outdoor brands: Patagonia, Picture, Scott, Millet, Dakine...
- Zany ideas are also born on Benoît's kitchen counter, amidst the Lego toys made by his young sons...
- On restaurant terraces, on table corners, by Gilles, his wife and his son Thomas, who travels the roads of France by bike. In short, everywhere. Wherever our ideas take us, we're working on your future bars or tweaking the recipes of existing bars. Because we love listening to your feedback at trade fairs and on our social networks: a little too much curry in the Sweet Potato bar, a little pepper that needs to be removed, etc.
Step 2: We have our bars made by a workshop in the FRENCH ALPS.
We send our recipes, once they've been concocted, along with all our instructions (we're super-demanding because we want high quality) to a workshop in the Southern Alps*. So the people who actually make your natural energy bars live in France. So your bars are helping to keep jobs in France.
Of course, we have ingredients that can come from abroad. As is the case with the high-quality products of the Chris et Olive artisanal oil house. Because we choose the best ingredients. We chose the Kalamata region of Greece, for example, because the olives grown by Olivier Garibal (also a member of our team of Trail ambassadors) are the richest in polyphenols (antioxidants that protect your heart and brain). These quality antioxidants are also what enable us to keep your Baouw bars talking. To prevent them from ageing and to ensure that YOU can age in good conditions.
Stage 3: Your Baouw bars in French shops
You can now find us in around 1,000 organic shops and sports shops all over France! You can find out if there's a store near you, .
Step 4: Made in France: for all products?
Well, no, unfortunately. There's one product that we can't (yet) get made in France. At least, not at the moment. This is the case with our purée, which, for the time being, is cooked in Catalonia, not far from the French border, in the only workshop that was capable of producing our recipes involving almost a dozen different ingredients each time (including spices and aromatic herbs). We're working on a version in glass jars, made in France. As you can imagine, we're very keen on this project. We hope it will be feasible. In any case, we're adapting, but we're working tirelessly - whatever happens - to provide you with the highest possible quality, the very best in nutrition that we at Baouw know how to make. Because giving the best of yourself, constantly surpassing yourself, is something that speaks to us sportsmen and women. And always pushing ourselves to the top is our philosophy, our ambition. But all our sports nutrition bars are currently Made in France and will be for a long time to come, that's for sure! Just like our new bars coming out this summer, including the latest addition, Blueberry. -
Why show you an official document, like a bailiff's report? To show you that Baouw doesn't bullshit you. There's no greenwashing here. No ‘Made in France washing’ either. Full stop. Eating isn't so easy these days. Neither is trusting brands. We know this because, as consumers, we're very careful. So we wanted to be as transparent as possible.
What's more, we are certified by Ecocert, the French control and certification body for people and the environment.
